To be honest, some phobias don't have specific terms. For you, I'd just go with "panophobia" - the fear of everything.
However, I doubt you have actual phobias when it comes to these things. It's one thing to be a little freaked out by a ceiling fan, and a whole other thing to go into full-on panic mode. And most of us would be afraid of a serial killer, but do you constantly live in fear of one and/or go to great lengths to avoid one?

The waviness is not at all uniform throughout, and I've found that it looks goofy when it's too short around my face because one side will flip out or something like that.
When I saw low maintenance, I mean no hair dryers, no curling irons, etc. Right now I usually wear my hair in a pony tail, but if it were shorter I wouldn't wear it up nearly as often.
Right now my hair is long (middle of my back) with layers, but it looks sort of goofy unless I wear it up because there's just so much of it.

I seem to have the same texture and thickness of hair as you. To deal with the thickness, I get it layered quite a bit. I find that the length that works best for me is almost to my shoulders. Then I can let it air-dry and do nothing to it and it looks ok. With the layers and different lengths, it looks fine if it flips out all over the place because that's its style.
If you do cut your hair short again, make sure that you get it thinned. Thining doesn't work so well when it's longer though.
i have the same problem as you. I usually get it cut up to your shoulder and layered in the back. However, i tried a new hairstyle. Have you seen Katie Holmes new haircut? Maybe that would look good...but I would have the front a little longer... Report It

I also have thick wavy hair. I have it shoulder length , I have it tapered starting at my cheekbone and it is layered at the ends so it is fluffy. It is low maintenance, I wash it and let it dry - it never looks goofy, in fact I get a lot of compliments on it :) I just use some Chi silk infusium and the shine spray to keep it soft and manageable.
Ask your stylist when she is working on your hair to make sure it does fall naturally. Mine does this so my hair never goes the wrong direction!

Umm, conair straighteners light up (a small screen) when they get hot. Conair straighteners are the best to use, becaause they help reduce getting more split ends. Conair hairstraighteners have ceramic, which is way better for you hair. Besides this im not sure what your talking about.. sorry.. Hope this helps

I have an ion hair dryer, hot roller, and flat iron, and I can definitely see a difference when I use those tools compared to the others that I have that aren't ionic. The ionic ones make the hair shinier, smoother, and I believe they cause less damage.
When hair is wet, it is vulnerable to damage. They say that you should not style your hair when it is wet. Having said that ionic hair dryers are really fast. It used to take me 1/2 hour to dry my hair. Now I can do it in 5 minutes with a very inexpensive Revlon Ion dryer. Bear in mind that my hair is to my waist and pretty high maintenance. Now it is easier to style my hair.

You can use a Chi, which is fairly expensive ($100), or just go to a local beauty supply shop and make sure it's a ceramic flat iron, and it will work just as good. Before she uses anything on her hair as far as a curling iron or a flat iron, get her some "smooth and seal" from Big Sexy products. It's a spray, with no hold, but it protects and smooths the hair out. This is another one of my necessities. I spray my hair with this every day before I straighten it to keep it healthy and it gives it a nice shine. Here's a link for this also...

Has she, perhaps, tried a dryer sheet? As strange as it sounds, it makes perfect sense. When my hair had some static issues of it's own, my grandma went straight for the dryer sheets. And to boost, you can always find some that smell good. =D Just take one out and have her rub it through her hair.

There are some hair straighteners that you put water in them so when you straighten, it makes steam. There is one by Conair that is great. I used to have the same problem. Also get her to try different anti frizz serums, like hot oil.

you could try getting a relaxer, alot of people use it on african american hair, but I'm white, and I've used it before.
After I used it, I was able to let my hair air dry, and it was straight as a pin!
I don't have any experience with this cuz my hair is extremely straight, but my friend's hair sounds like yours and she uses a chemical straightner or something to make it straight

Could it be our new water tank? I would have thought the shower filter would have taken care of that. Every time I shampoo and dry, my hair on top is stick and oily-looking and it looks like I've gone a few days without washing. Can anyone suggest anything other than changing shampoos/hair dryers? Do you get it cut every 4-6 weeks? If not, it can break more easily and split ends can become more apparent.
Have you changed your shampoo/conditioner recently? If so, maybe your hair isn't taking well to the new brand, if not, maybe it has built up a bit of a "tolerance" to the old stuff.
Have you been pregnant/had children? Hair goes through loads of changes during those times!
Lastly, and this may be the biggest factor...what you eat can affect your hair. If you are not eating healthily, your hair, skin, and/or nails can and will show it.
Your hair can change permanently after having a child, so this may very well be the case. I would definitely suggest a deep conditioning treatment and regular trims! Best of luck! Report It

Hot oil didn't help much with my hair.. It might with yours though.
I find Aussie conditioner very good but again it depends on your hair.
Invest in a good leave in conditioner. Charles Worthington in a orange tube/bottle is very good.
Leave your hair to get a little greasy occasionally. The natural oils will do it good.
Also, make sure you use a moisturising product if you use a lot of heat. You get creams specifically for hair that is straightened and blowdried. You put it on your hair (usually wet) before you are going to apply heat and it protects it.
You can try the Chinese herb He Shou Wu, Polygonum Multiflorum. This is a blood tonic, and, since the hair is the effulgence of blood, this herb has a great effect on hair. Taken internally. It also will darken the hair.

The best thing you can do for your hair is use a product that you put on BEFORE you use either. A heat protectant is good... Sexy Hair makes a Straight Sexy Hair spray on that totally protects me from damage - and I use both 5-6 times a week.

Well I have a ceramic flat iron (CHI) and it makes my hair MUCH smoother and shinier than regular metal flat irons. I've tried the Conair ionic hair dryer, nothing different than the regular ones. But then again it is Conair, so they are usually pretty cheap anyways.
Anything that requires heat damages your hair. There are tons of heat protectant sprays on the market that supposedly lessen the damage, though. I recently bought an ionic hair dryer and didn't see much difference except for a clunky attachment.
Use an ionic flat iron. It will not curl back easly.

There isn't much difference after a point...there are the cheap dryers that don't get hot and don't blow much air, then there are the ones that do both and burn the hair, then there are the so-called Ionic dryers...
I've always used a Revlon dryer....it dried my hair fine, but after using it DAILY I noticed that my hair had dried and the ends were bad.
So I bought a Rusk Hyper Ionic dryer ($140 in stores) and it leaves my hair softer, and it has different heat settings (hot/warm/cool) and a Cold shot button (MUCH colder than other dryers I've used). I think it's worth it...but the ones that are $200 and $300...I just can't tell the difference in what I have and those.

Nope, I don't think they're worth it..... the principle is the same: hot air, and the damage will be the same. It's not like a flat iron, which can damage hair more or less depending on the material they're made of..... I guess all dryers have the same effect no matter what their price is.

If you straighten your hair, you should wash, blow dry, and striaghten it right before you you leave. Then just comb it every once in a while. When you sleep or are not doing anything that requires you to have nice nice hair... put it in a bun. When it starts to get oily you pull out waterless shampoo (comes in a can kinda like hairspray). You spray it on your roots and the powderish residue soakes up the oils. It will give your straightened hair a little more longevity. Then if your up for it, once you hair is too far gone, check out the local beauty shops, I bet you can get your hair done there for like 10 bucks or less! Might as well come back looking great!

In checked baggage, which is in the plane itself (!), of course. Ask a travel agent about taking a dryer in your carry-on. As long as it's a plug-in model (not battery operated), there should be no problem.
There are no restrictions on taking hair driers and there never have been, whether you have them in your checked baggage or in your hand luggage. The only restrictions apart from the long-standing restrictions on explosives, fireworks, corrosives, etc are that you cannot take more than small quantities of liquids and gels in your hand luggage any more.
You might have a problem if you have one of those driers that works using gas cartridges but a regular electric one will be fine.
Incidentally, a UK drier will not work very well in the US due to different voltage requirements. It will be extremely slow and it will take forever to dry your hair. The cheapest option would be simply buy a new one in the US. They start at around $20 (11 pounds sterling). If you are staying at a 3-star hotel or better, you will almost certainly find a drier in your room.
No you cannot take any elictrical equipment with you.
Of course you can carry hair driers, but the US and European electrical systems are different, so you will need adaptors or maybe transformers etc. Why not buy a cheap hair drier when you get there. That way, there is no problem with getting the thing to work properly on the local power supply. Its safer too.
Yes no problems as long as it is in the hold. Make sure it's a travel one though - I took my nice hair dryer to florida last year - took up the weight of loads of clothes and it didn't work properly because the voltage wasn't the same. Be careful I'm sure you'll want the weight for shopping and clothes!!! Have fun!!!

You can buy those special conditioners for Afro hair that you spay on and leave in. I brought some great ones for my sisters kids there hair is really wild lol! It also help if you have it trimmed more it helps it to grow quicker and come back healthier.

First, you need to get a haircut that will get rid of all the dead hair.
Then use Sunsilk, shampoo and conditionar. I would use the one for Dry hair and hair that needs extra care.Their cheap, like 4 bucks a bottle, but they work, and it leaves your hair feeling nice and silky smooth.
EVERY day rinse your hair with HOT water, wash your hair twice...Like shampoo it twice...And then rinse off with COLD water let hair become damp and put conditioner it...If you have a shower cap put that on your hair leave it on for any where over 30 mins.
If you dont have a shower cap Syran rap works just the same....
Then rinse with Cold water
BUT you have to do so every day
Make sure you are not using hair products with alcohol in them, these will dry out your hair.
You do NOT need to shampoo your hair everyday, this WILL dry your hair out, try once a week. You can do a water rinse or conditioner only wash in between shampoos. Try using a heated conditioner when you can, if you have a heat cap or you can wear a shower cap under hot water in the shower.
At night try sleeping with either a satin pillow case or a silk scarf on your hair, because cotton and other synthetic materials will break the ends of your hair (this is the same for wool hats).
Then in the morning you can use a water spritzer for moisture and a little jojoba oil.
You should be fine as long as you are styling gently and not using straight rubber bands or anything else pulling or damaging on your hair ends.

i have thick curly hair i know where you coming from. what you can do is use a moisturizing shampoo or hydrating shampoo and this is because Afro hair is a lot more dry than other hair types.also use a moisturizing conditioner and a leave in conditioner. use a hair moisturizer (it's anything that has aqua which is water as one of the first ingredients at the back), here are some examples of moisturizers

i use SoftSheen-Carson Wave Nouveau Daily Humectant because humectants attract moisture from the surroundings to moisturize your hair and it keeps my hair moisturized when it gets dry. also wash your hair more offent minimum once a week and between shampooing your hair wash your hair with conditioner which will add extra moisture this is called co-washing or the no-poo method. also try not to keep the ends of your hair out this can also dry out your, try putting it in a bun or French twist and sleep in a satin scarf it really keeps your hair soft and moisturized. i do all of this and trust me it works i do it myself.
Dont go out and buy anything expensive.
First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)
Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)
Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)
Use a teaspoon of every oil and honey,.... a little more if ur hair is long or a little less if ur hair is short
Repeat this 3-4 times a week, your hair will grow like a weed, fortify, reconstruct, moisturize, soften %26amp; remove all frizz I promise,..... and it will be super shiny!!!!
The clairifying shampoo will help take the oil off your hair when u shower
You can also use a conditioner but get a light conditioner that wont wiegh ur hair down, becuz u can over condition, I use herbl essences "clean happy" conditioner.
You can find olive oil anywere, but the other oils you will have to buy at a local organics store, wholes foods or BJ's health corner.

don't know where you are but i RANG dublin airport on this one. we are off to madrid next month with just hand luggage and my sister wanted to bring her hair straightener. i had to be sure cos its a bit dear to be leaving behind if you cant take it. the man said it would be fine, you can take a dryer, straightener and shoes. they were the only things i asked about. ring whatever airport you are flying from because ultimately it will be them making the decision, not the airline and certainly not the people on here with so many conflicting answers.
Actually, I think they're wrong. It looks as though you can take hairdryers through but they have to be screened separately (like laptops and mobile phones). I'm afraid I can't find anything about straighteners though.

ummm, i took my hair straightners on an airfrance flight 2 months ago and had no problems. Check with your the air carrier your using, it should tell you on there website. If not phone your local airport help desk.

if you use a quality hair dryer correctly %26amp; take good care of your hair, there is no problem with using one. try to let your hair dry at least somewhat naturally after you get out of the shower, comb (not brush) through your wet hair to get rid of tangles. apply some leave-in heat activated conditioner that will not only help protect your hair but aid in making it sleek and shiny. blowdry your hair but not at the highest heat setting, the medium setting will do. (if it comes w/ an attachement, use it to disperse the air more thoroughly). don't blow dry your hair for too long. once youve blown the style you want, use the cold option to seal/lock in your style %26amp; add volume. hope this helps

When your hair is wet, your hair is REALLY breakable. Even if you use the cold air option, your hair is going to become damaged to some extent.
There are treatments you can use to help deal with hair trauma, and if you blot your hair and let it air dry a little bit before drying it, you're going to help out a LOT. Also, NEVER go to sleep with your hair wet!
If you use the cold air option it should be fine, the only thing is that keeping the dryer on this setting will ruin most dryers. Try to put a thermal protector in your hair before drying. Also, if possible try to invest in the tourmaline dryer.

But, if you don't get rid of them in her environment, you will continue to get them. Make sure you pick out every single nit, or else more will hatch.

There are two options, either purchase a special lice-removing shampoo and use, then continue wasking hair more often theu currently doing with reguler shampoo once gone. If that doesn't work, the only other option is to shave all the hair off to get rid of lice.

you have to wash all the bedding, clothing, stuffed animals, pillows, hats, jackets with hoods, hoodie sweat-shirts, hairbrushes and combs.......anything your daughter has come in contact with , at the same time you do the head treatment.......you also have to be diligent and pick the nits out with that special comb. You should repeat the treatment after a week ( and YES, this means washing all that stuff again !! )

1. Please cut her hair to managable proportions if it is too long.
(pls dont go overboard or she'll end up having a nightmare at school!)
2. The most effective tool against lice is a comb and a sharp eyesight. Take a fine comb and remove all the lice you can. Also carefully look out for the eggs that they lay on the hair strands.(these are like small white round grains of sand, stuck to either the top or middle of hair strands).

How's about giving it a natural cheap, chemical free protein shampoo?? Simply crack open an egg and beat with a fork. Then add enough shampoo for two applications. Mix it up and apply half of it as you would normally if you were simply shampooing ............... wrap in a towel and leave it for 5 mins then rinse thoroughly and put in the rest of the mix, massaging it in and also leave for 5 minutes. When you've rinse this lot out simply put a couple tablespoons of white vinegar in a 2 litre bottle and fill with warm water and, making sure your eyes are closed, rinse off the excess film and chemical build up with the vinegar mixture ........ the egg's protein content will restore your hair's natural lustre and the vinegar mix restores the natural ph balance to your skin and hair !! you might have a minor ear infection or a build up of wax. Try putting some warm olive oil in your ear before you go to sleep and plug the ear up with cotton wool.
lol i think that happened to me before...it could just be sore from sleeping on it...or it could be clogged with ear wax (im not kidding) don't try to clean your ears with q-tips, that will just push it in further...use a drop of mineral oil if u think its because of earwax...that is the proper way to clean your ears on a day-to-day bases...not with Q-tips...good luck = )

frizzy hair is caused by a lot of factors. how you style your hair, what climate you live in, and how often you shampoo and condition are all factors. dehydrated hair, or hair that has heat damage could also be the culprit. I would say that if you are switching shampoos and conditoners this much, they probably aren't what's causing your frizzstration. do you blow-dry your hair at a high heat? if so maybe switch to low or cool when drying. if you don't feel like doing that you can invest in some frizz-ease ( John Frieda, you can get it at walgreens) [ and they have 3 different formulas depending n how thick/coarse your hair is]. you only use a little bit when you style your hair and it does wonders. still don't feel like doing that? then get some heat protector spray. VO5 makes an amazing one, I use it myself. (plus is smells yummy) I hope this helped. P.S all those products I mentioned are safe to use on colored hair.

How's about giving it a natural cheap, chemical free protein shampoo?? Simply crack open an egg and beat with a fork. Then add enough shampoo for two applications. Mix it up and apply half of it as you would normally if you were simply shampooing ............... wrap in a towel and leave it for 5 mins then rinse thoroughly and put in the rest of the mix, massaging it in and also leave for 5 minutes. When you've rinse this lot out simply put a couple tablespoons of white vinegar in a 2 litre bottle and fill with warm water and, making sure your eyes are closed, rinse off the excess film and chemical build up with the vinegar mixture ........ the egg's protein content will restore your hair's natural lustre and the vinegar mix restores the natural ph balance to your skin and hair !! Voila !! Absolutely marvellous I reckon.

herbal essences has this shampoo called 'none of your friziness' wash your hair witht he shampoo and conditner (theyre like 3 bucks each i think) and then blow dry your hair with a regular dryer. straighten it if you want but this is what i do and it works and i live in florida and the humidity is horrible here!! lol

Try Garnier Fructis, or Sunsilk. They work good. Or you can cut your hair really short and do a style like that.
my hair is AMAZINGLY frizzy too. i just sleep on it then in the morning put water in it or take a shower then put gel just like NORMAL gel. that REALLY helps, but i understand meaning all the frixxyness doesnt goaway. u dont wanna cut ur hair though cuz thaltll look weird. what type of style are u looking for? straight or curly?
well if you want rele great hair then you may have to make time for it in the evening but you may want to ask your hair dresser for any suggestions. She will tell you what products are best for your hair and how to calm it down.

I need to use it to add volume to my roots. The ceramic/ionic/tourmaline- I heard this reduces drying time, so thats good.....any brand recommendations? I also want something that isn't super hot so that it scorches my scalp.

The ceramic and Tourmaline dryers generate negative ions, which neutralize the positive ones already in your hair. When this happens the water in your hair is broken down into tiny drops, thus reducing the drying time. The only problem with this, is that becuase the ions are generated and deposited into the hair, it will add weight, making it more difficult to get volume. Try just a normal blow dryer with a big round brush.

No, styling gel doesn't induce any of that. And the excessive heat from a blow dryer does slightly damage your hair which COULD eventually lead to hair loss, but you can buy a good heat protector to put in your hair before you blow dry it.

Nope...unless the styling gel is full of chemicals, it can't harm your hair other than making it flatter because of product build-up. Hair dryers make your hair dryer, which could induce grey hairs because the lack of moisture. If you use heat-protective sprays on your hair, though, you won't have to worry about that.

It won't cause grey hair but I was using a hair gel and my hair was coming out and then I switched to a styling cream and it stopped.

you may comb yourdry hair with lil bit of olive oil, it will shine too. Or you may keep it curly like Jesus did.
frizzies works put it on before you take your shower and after you will see a big improvement.
Ok this is something that I was taught by my mom. First you need lots of bobby pins and a comb. Take your hair and part it down the center in the back and clip the left side so it doesn't interfer with the rest. Start on the right side and comb your hair over the right side and start pinning it down to your head. Continue going around your head to the front pinning and combing. When you get the the left side left the hair out and repeat until you have no more hair left to pin. Basically what you are doing is wrapping your hair around your scalp and pinning it down. You can then wrap a bandana around yourhead to hold it in place while you sleep. In the morning unpin it and do it in the opposite direction. It may make easier to leave it in one direction for a couple of hrs and then the other way. Sounds complicated but once you get used to it is is better and safer for your hair than straighteners or dryers.

I have the same problem. my hair is straight as anything. I got tired of this method so i got a perm but i will share a couple of ways with you. First is to get sponge curlers to wear at night. You will need to use some sort of scrunching spray to set the curls in the morning. I recommend Aussie scrunching spray loose hold. The bigger the curler the looser the curl. The second way is to get a LOT of bobby pins and take chunks of hair ( the bigger the chunk the looser the curl) and twist them until they twists into a tight bun and pin them. You should have at least 15 buns all over your head. In the morning spray with the scrunching spray to preserve the curls. Good luck.
